The diagnosis instrument PIPALE 1 resulted from a collaboration between the research team of the Linguistic Research Centre of NOVA University of Lisbon and preschool educators, primary school teachers and special needs teachers from the School Clusters that participated in PIPALE in the academic year 2019-2020: Agrupamento de Escolas Navegador Rodrigues Soromenho and Agrupamento de Escolas de Quinta do Conde.
The instrument targets children in the last year of preschool and first and second grade children.
The instrument assesses the following domains:
- Booklet 1 – phonological awareness (syllable, rhyme and phoneme) and word awareness
- Booklet 2 – syntactic knowledge and syntactic awareness
- Booklet 3 – early litteracy
- Booklet 4 – reading and writing
