The PIPALE preschool kit comprises a set of activities designed to develop aspects of phonological awareness and syntactic awareness. The activities are presented to children in the playful format of a game.

Activities included in the Kit PIPALE preschool

PIPALE Puppet

This game is played with the help of a puppet, the PIPALE puppet, which is made by the child. The puppet should be introduced as a friendly little monster from a faraway place who wants to make new friends. This monster does not speak Portuguese very well and needs the child’s help. The puppet will say several sentences, one at a time, and the child must help it determine whether the sentences are correct or incorrect.

Rainbow Game

This is a board game in which players must solve various types of challenges. These challenges involve various tasks, including evaluating the correctness of sentences, correcting incorrect sentences, or answering questions that assess understanding and interpretation of different syntactic structures.

Coloured Pencils Game

This game can be used for two distinct purposes: identifying rhyming words (rhyme game) or identifying words that start with the same sound (sound game). It is recommended to play one game at a time, at different moments. In this game, each colored pencil has four images, and the child is asked to identify the two images corresponding to words that rhyme (rhyme game) or the two images that correspond to words starting with the same sound (sound game).

Caps Game

This game consists of a set of cards with images. The child must choose a card and say aloud what is depicted in the image. Then, the child is asked to count how many syllables the word has and place as many bottle caps on the card as the number of syllables counted.

Story Dice

This game consists of a set of dice, featuring different images on their faces. The first step is to help the child identify the images depicted on each face of the dice. To play, the child rolls all the dice and then orally constructs a story based on the images that appear on each dice.

Dominoes

This is a domino game with images. The domino pieces are placed on a table, and the child must arrange them in a sequence by matching identical syllables. The image on the right side of a piece must have a syllable that matches the image on the left side of the next piece. For example, the piece with the image “formiga” (‘ant’) on the right is placed next to the piece with the image “galinha” (‘chicken’) on the left.
